Christopher Columbus Monument
The Christopher Columbus Monument is located at the end of the famous passage of Las Ramblas facing the sea. Just like Columbus wasn’t in the search for the new world. Today I was walking around Plaza de Catalunya and on my way to the W Barcelona, I notice there was an entrance to this statue. Perfect opportunity to explore.
The lift to get to the head of the Christopher Columbus Monument was really small and only 3 people plus the lift operator can get in at a time. Interestingly, the lift operator told me the lift wasn’t always there, I wondered how people had the courage to walk 60 meters up.
Nevertheless, the view once up there are amazing. In the midst of the summer heat, I would spend a significant amount up here just because of how cool and the breeze feels.
You can obtain tickets at the monument or alternatively you can purchase them online here
The viewing deck is really tight and small. Not recommended by those who are claustrophobic. But the breeze is all worth it!.
You can see the Via Olympic and Barceloneta from the head of the statue.
A cool gift shop on the ground, and you can get a glass of wine with your ticket entrance. Ticket entrance is not expensive at all is just under 7 EUR.
The area is small and can make you feel cramped, for the price and the view its worth it. I highly recommend for everyone to visit and go up the Christopher Columbus Monument. Not sure about the wine.
