One of my favorite English activities to take part in and perhaps the thing I like from the British cuisine is the occasional afternoon tea Just like Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, I would get hungry between lunch and dinner, and what a better way to kill the hunger than an assortment of teas and light sandwiches and sweets.
In the heart of Mayfair London lies one of the most famous, luxurious, and exquisite locations to indulge in one of the oldest British traditions, the Afternoon Tea at Claridge’s London. Getting lucky to score a reservation on the weekend at the last minute, I became excited to have an afternoon tea just like royalty.
I had the traditional afternoon tea which was served on fine china in bold jade and white stripes, this utterly English meal is a mouth-watering experience with wide selection of teas from regional English to rare blends and herbal infusions.
Traditional Afternoon Tea: £60 per person
A selection of loose leaf teas and herbal infusions:
A choice of 24 teas from all over the world
A delicious array of finger sandwiches
Freshly baked raisin and apple scones with Marco Polo jelly and Cornish Clotted cream
A selection of sweet pastries
Shortly after getting seated, I was given a book that has not just the menu but as well a history of the afternoon tea and how it has evolved and transcended into Claridge’s.
The silverware, at the table all pure silver! was definitely a very royal touch.
There is quite a selection of sandwiches to choose from, from was chicken, salmon, eggs, ham among others. Best of all you can request as many rounds as you like. Furthermore, you could customize your sandwiches to your taste.
Interesting way to bring the ice popsicles. In a piece of grass turd. I guess it’s to represent how organic they are.
Now the ice cream was delicious, I personally love the mixture of hot and cold desserts.
Great selection of petit cakes and other assortments
Now the sponge cake is all worth it with the gold leaf on top of it. I wonder is it more expensive than the cake itself?
Entering the hotel you encounter yourself at peace, the music, the atmosphere is just so calming.
I was very surprised to find a last minute opening for afternoon tea at Claridge’s. When I first called there was very limited availability. It happened that when I checked through their reservation system there was space available.
I truly enjoyed the experience at Claridge’s it was definitely a royal afternoon tea. The live music and the atmosphere, incomparable to other locations I have been. I definitely recommend to go there in groups of friends and or family. I would come back here again, and I might be planning my next visit for sooner than later.
