Review of a Standard Room at the Novotel Madrid Center Hotel
“Amazing hotel but heavily put off by hotel service desk representatives”
Just like many business travels, they tend to occur at the last minute and this trip to Madrid was no exception. I went to Madrid for a night due to a last minute meeting and dinner that came up. Then, the next day I was scheduled to fly to Philadelphia. Now, American Airlines only has one flight from Madrid to PHL AA741. Therefore, I had to choose a hotel that was conveniently located in the city center yet easily accessible to the airport. The Novotel Madrid Center Hotel came up as the right choice.
I booked the hotel through Expedia, After staying 15 nights at qualifying hotels I received gold status which gives me a wide range of perks and access to special offers and prices. Plus, 2 points for every dollar spent that I can use for hotel bookings.
When I booked the hotel I made an error and booked for the wrong dates. I didn’t realize that was the case until I reached the hotel which became a tedious process.
When I arrived at the hotel, the rep at check-in desk couldn’t find the reservation. I showed him the Expedia confirmation and there we’ve realized that the reservation was made for the following year. I regret speaking to that rep because from the first point of contact he was speaking to me in a rude manner, and he certainly wasn’t going to be any help to resolve the problem.
First I kindly asked him if he can change the reservation, he said straight up said no. He suggested I should make a reservation for this evening with him and then come back again next year. I know what you’re thinking and I thought the same thing too.
Then after I explained to him that making another reservation and coming back again next year was not the best optimal decision. He suggested I should contact Expedia and take it up with them, I asked him if I can make a call from the hotel phone and he said no.
Finally, Since this guy was not being any help at all I decided to call Expedia from my own phone. Once on the phone, I got some hope that I would be helped. The Expedia rep first needed to contact the hotel, but couldn’t get a hold of them. Then I asked another check-in rep to please answer the phone so that they can resolve the issue.
To make the horrid story short, the manager answered the call from the Expedia rep and fixed the reservation detail so that I can stay for the night.
Standard Room at the Madrid Novotel Center
The room is very big and spacious and plenty of lighting. I love how the bed has an arc of light which brings up more lighting. Also by the chair, there was enough room to lay the extra luggage.
The bathroom is well equipped with great toiletries, also there is an arc of light in the mirror. It will guarantee you don’t miss anything out before you leave.
The shower is spacious as well and I love the rain shower feature.
The Novotel Madrid Center hotel is conveniently located in the centre of the city and close by the airport too. Greatly decorated and well kept. But the bad part of it was that particular representative, the way he talked to me and the resolution he offered was not acceptable.
